So we sat her on a log in the open air, where she sang "Holiday" - from her new album Never - while flanked by Raisa Khan and Marc Pell from her band The Shapes. Taking Micachu on a hike into the sun-dappled woods of Washington, D.C.'s Rock Creek Park makes as much sense as it would to surround her with modern everyday life. Micachu is a sore thumb in human form, but there's nothing inauthentic or performative about her outsider status. She identifies herself as a pop singer, but while her songs are catchy enough, they're no one's idea of pop-radio fodder. Micachu, doesn't exactly fit comfortably into her surroundings: She cuts a vaguely otherworldly, not-so-vaguely androgynous figure, and sings strangely pretty, jagged little songs with the aid of odd tunings and a tiny guitar, which dangles from crudely tied twine. For the minutes he played, it was the most beautiful spot around.Įxperimental musician Mica Levi, a.k.a. There, in front of a row of Honey Buckets, the Deer Tick frontman performed "Main Street," appropriately one of Divine Providence's morning-after numbers the song exudes regret and loss while remaining brash and defiant. We landed at the opposite end of the spectrum aesthetically - all the way to the sanitation area of the artists' campground. So we drove as far away from the painted landscape as we could in the short time we had to capture this Field Recording. It was a relief, really, because the natural majesty of the surroundings didn't seem at home with Deer Tick's music - especially not the Replacements-esque party attitude of the band's new album, Divine Providence. As Deer Tick's John McCauley stood on the picturesque hillside of the Columbia River Gorge, about to strum the first chord of a song, another band started to blast us from the main stage nearby. Like a ray gun that shoots weaponized gorgeousness, the Vermont trio Mountain Man fit an awful lot of moony harmonies into this all-too-brief performance of "Sewee Sewee." As a self-explanatorily named group called The Seeger Clogging Allstars clomped away behind them, Mountain Man's three members - Molly Erin Sarle, Alexandra Sauser-Monnig and Amelia Randall Meath - sang and stared sweetly into each other's faces. Thankfully, we made it out with the footage you see above. Standing amid hundred-year-old rubble as the 2011 Newport Folk Festival clattered merrily in the distance, we were either going to capture two breathtaking minutes of music or get eviscerated by maniacs as part of The Newport Witch Project. As a gaggle of videographers, musicians, industry types and hangers-on stepped gingerly through tall brush to enter a dilapidated section of Fort Adams in Newport, R.I., you couldn't blame us for feeling like unwitting participants in a horror movie. 9/18/2023 0 Comments 27 cfm airflowIf noise is not a limiting factor, then installing fans with the most flow will assure the lowest internal temperatures and longest component life. Please keep in mind the following discussion is directed at applications where noise is of some concern. Fans that are physically larger typically are more quiet because you can get the same volume of air flow with a lower fan RPM. Because the chassis pressure impedance curve (pressure required to move air) is nonlinear, doubling fan capacity does not double the air delivery. Often, the bigger fan is simply stirring the air and providing no real additional cooling benefit. “Bigger” used in this context refers to the speed and free air flow rating of the fan. The problem with bigger fans is they generate significantly more noise than smaller fans. But if you package six chassis in a rack and put several racks in a room, the combined noise can be deafening. We are seeing more specifications that include a noise limit for normal operation. This is becoming more pronounced with the high speed processors such as dual Xeon which require 200Watts just for the motherboard. However, noise is often a limiting factor for chassis selection with conflicting requirements for operating temperature versus low noise generation. System cooling performance should be determined to assure cards are not operated above their published temperature limits. However, four fans will cost about $80 or 25% of the chassis cost but a small percentage of the integrated system cost. This is not significant compared to the total system cost. A 4-½” fan will cost about $5 more than a 3-½” fan. In general, a single fan, regardless of size, will cost about $20 with installation, grills, etc. This works well if cost and noise are not factors. The first is to simply install as many of the biggest fans available as will fit. There are two methods for selecting a fan. In general, a 10 deg C temperature reduction will provide a 2:1 increase in MTBF. You will see most manufacturers’ operating temperature and power supply specifications are unrealistic and not supportable.Īdditional cooling allows for higher power boards to be installed plus extends component life by limiting the maximum temperatures the components are exposed to. Otherwise, the following information will demonstrate the maximum ambient temperature any industrial chassis can safely operate in as well as help with chassis noise reduction. If high ambient temperatures or noise are not an issue, you can skip this section. Clone computers run at a negative internal pressure and become very dusty inside. Industrial computers provide a positive chassis pressure to control dust entry. The typical office clone computer simply uses the one small fan in the power supply for cooling. Industrial computers typically provide between one and four fans pulling through air filters in addition to the fan in the power supply. One of the main differences between an industrial computer and an office clone computer is cooling. The latest effort to eliminate the password comes from the FIDO Alliance, an industry group aimed at standardizing authentication methods online. Passwords are a pain-you’ll get no argument here-but we don’t see them going away in the foreseeable future. Passkeys, FIDO, and the “Death of the Password”Ī concerted effort to get rid of passwords began roughly two days after the password was invented. Read our guide to VPN providers for more ideas on how you can upgrade your security, as well as our guide to backing up your data to make sure you don’t lose anything if the unexpected happens. We need to offload that work to password managers, which offer secure vaults that can stand in for our memory.Ī password manager offers convenience and, more importantly, helps you create better passwords, which makes your online existence less vulnerable to password-based attacks. That might work for Memory Grand Master Ed Cooke, but most of us are not capable of such fantastic feats. (Make sure they are long, strong, and secure!) Just kidding. The safest (if craziest) way to store your passwords is to memorize them all. The problem is, most of us don’t know what makes a good password and aren’t able to remember hundreds of them anyway. For nearly a decade, that’s been “123456” and “password”-the two most commonly used passwords on the web. We know they’re good for us, but most of us are happier snacking on the password equivalent of junk food. These variations appear to me to be mostly attributable to differences in website coding, not to browsers and password managers.Password managers are the vegetables of the internet. Some password managers can manually populate log-in fields while others require that I cut-and-paste user names and passwords. And how specific password managers and specific websites interact varies. Some other websites automatically populate these fields when I initally navigate to the website. I’ve found this to be the case for different password managers and different browsers including at least one browser that’s not Chromium-based.įor example, logging into this website - the one that presumably you’re looking at right now - initially presents me with blank user and password fields. I’ve not been shy with some of my criticisms of Brave, but this may be beyond Brave’s (or any browser’s) control. My experience with password managers and browsers: how a specific website handles logging in depends mostly on the website’s coding, not on either the browser or password manager. I have added the 1 Password extension to the Brave Browser What I would like to happen is to have Brave authenticate me to 1 Password when I fire up the browser and then use the 1 Password store to automatically log me on when I go to a site. How it works today is that I go to a site, click on logon, click on 1 Password, authenticate to 1 Password, click on the site in 1 Password and it logs me in. I would like Brave to read 1 Password and auto fill my ID and password. I really don’t want my passwords saved in Brave / or however it’s done when you click on “Save logon”. What I would like to do is to have 1 Password auto fill my ID & Password when I go to a site. Hopefully this issue has been resolved, I just can’t find it and as usual doing something wrong. I’m an old man and am not real good at searching for answers on these types of forums. 9/18/2023 0 Comments Wine on linux liteYou are basically looking for the function lock.
